Gold Identification
– 24k signifies 99.9% pure gold.
– 18k, 14k, and 10k correspond to 75%, 58.3%, and 41.7% gold content, respectively, alloyed with other metals for strength and durability.
Silver Identification
Silver Jewelry & Flatware
Genuine silver items are often marked with purity stamps such as:
– .999 or 999 – Fine silver (99.9% pure)
– .925 or 925 – Sterling silver (92.5% pure)
These marks are typically located on the underside of flatware, inside rings, or on jewelry clasps.
Items labeled EPNS (Electroplated Nickel Silver), German Silver, or Nickel Silver are silver-plated and do not contain measurable silver content. As such, they hold no melt value.
Platinum Identification
Platinum is marked with precise fineness stamps such as:
– PT950 or 950 Plat – 95% pure platinum (common in fine jewelry)
– PT900 or 900 Plat – 90% pure platinum
These markings are generally found inside rings or on the back of pendants and earrings.
Platinum is a dense, valuable metal, and items with proper markings have significant resale value. Items without clear stamps may require spectrometer analysis for verification.
